Whitehouse Farm
Well another fabulous season of WSDA Meets draws to a close and I think our last Meet went out with a ‘pop’ - yes, there were a few corks popping but some of our campers were also proudly displaying their new ‘pop-out awning tents’ and each one was christenend with a good old WSDA get together. At times, it felt like we were taking part in a Guinness World Record of ‘how many campers can you get into an awning.
Whitehouse Farm is a beautiful campsite and despite Kathy the owner telling us that up until a week ago the field had been brown, the grass was green and lush. There were many get togethers for tea & cake and then a tipple or two in the evenings. CathP had bought a quiz for 7+ in the local charity shop and the whole evening became a huge barrel of laughs - thank you Cath. Tina & Steve were superb (as always) Stewards and dealt with an interesting visit from the local Laughing Gnome competently - you had to be there……
It was so peaceful at Whitehouse Farm that we also had regular visits from the local deer herd. And although they stayed across the field it was quite peaceful watching them graze on the long grass. Thanks to SteveH for the photo.
And so, another season draws to a close and what began as a beautiful hot, sunny weekend at Wild Heart Hill ended in a beautiful warm, sunny weekend in Whitehouse Farm. We were very pleased to welcome some new campers again this weekend and we hope they will join us at future Meets in 2027. Kirsten is finalising bookings for 2027 and we will be releasing them as soon as we can. I will continue to update the website with any news and Pat will be doing the same for Facebook readers. We, the Committee hope that you have a wonderful rest of 2026 and we hope to see you all at our 2027 Meets and AGM.
Laughing Fish

Despite the forecast not being the best, we had 19 units. We were still able to sit outside together.
Some visited the Laughing Fish Pub for a drink, breakfast or evening meal. With a varied menu of traditional or Thai foods to choose from there was plenty to choose from. Others visited the Lavender Line and either went on it or watched the steam train from years gone by & looked at some of the artefacts. Some sheltered in the telephone box from a shower! Others visited Uckfield and explored the charity shops while some caught the bus, from around the corner, to Lewes for the day.
All in all a lovely weekend was had by all.

LANCING 2026
Following our very successful Lancing 2025, we (the Committee) sat down to plan Lancing 2026; our initial thoughts were that we had quite a challenge on our hands. Pat had attended several ‘live’ music events to sign up the best talent West Sussex has to offer and what an amazing job he did too! The marquees were rocking from Day 1 with live entertainment from TreeAnna a Cher tribute act, who very kindly took requests and sang her way through everyone’s favourite songs.
Saturday morning we had CPR and Defibrillator Training with Sally Holmes Sally.Holmes@secamb.nhs.uk followed by our traditional “Fun Quiz” set and led by Chris the mistress of bingo and quizzes! Lancing 2026 had kicked off - big time!
During the week, campers poured in keeping the Stewards very busy, welcoming over 200 units in three weeks. Daily visits from Mack’s Ice Cream and weekly visits from Spud Shack kept our campers happy. Weekly ‘eyes down’ with our own Chris the Camping Caller in the marquee – there was some very lucky people this year!
Our second weekend welcomed MoonStarr Karaoke on Friday, giving some of our very talented campers a chance to sing - of course, the marquee shook once again to what has become ‘our song’ - Delilah. The wonderful Mel the Pocket Rocket on Saturday had the marquee rocking, at this point we felt that West Sussex THS had really got going and thanks to some wonderfully hot weather we were able to roll up the sides and several campers sat outside where it was cooler.
The THS continued through the month with Open Mike nights, Table Top Sale with Bacon Bap & Coffee morning, Camper’s Quiz (thanks to Debbie & Steve), Arts & Crafts demonstrations, a truly epic evening with Roz and our final event before ‘tents down’, Elton or was it Elvis????? It all seemed a bit Suspicious to me…..
Of course, we had to celebrate the 90th Birthday of a very special lady and someone who has camped with us for many many years. Shirley Bonner, always a beautiful smile and someone we all keep a space in our hearts for. Happy Birthday to our Shirl x
Tina & Steve celebrated their 25th Anniversary and Brenda shared her wonderful “I’m a great grandma” news - many congratulations to you all!

Hasn’t it been brilliant, as usual
Last year I wrote a piece about ‘behind the scenes’, so I thought it might be nice to let you in on what the Stewards do during the ‘quiet’ times(!) You will have seen that some of us were knitting – we were making poppies for The West Weald, to date we have knitted almost 50 poppies and I shall post a photo of the finished display in November. WSDA will have made their mark on this day of Remembrance.
Our camper Linda writes: this is our goal, in the West Weald there are five parishes, each parish is making a curtain with knitted and crocheted poppies which will be attached to a net - in all around 11,000 poppies will be made. The parishes taking part are Handcross, Staplefield, Slaugham, Pease Pottage and Warninglid.
A couple of “help” moments we dealt with:
“my fridge isn’t working….”
Fixing split roofs
Those pesky car alarms that only ever go off in the middle of the night
Answering calls from the gate after the final lock has been put on
Oh those Lancing gusts of wind that make our awnings dance! We rescued several awnings over the THS, note to yourself… make sure you pack storm straps next year.

And something not quite so pleasant….
Clearing up dog poo! Whilst we the Stewards are happy to help out on almost all occasions, it is NOT the job of the Stewards to clean up after your dog! There were several ‘deposits’ (mostly in the second field) and this is not acceptable. We are a dog-friendly group (even erecting a doggy tent so you may join in our events), but your dog is your responsibility and your responsibility to clear up after.
And so, to bring a close to WSDA Lancing 2026 I’d like to share just some of the wonderful comments we have received from our campers. The Committee and Stewards work very hard but it will only ever be as good as our campers make it – thank you from all of us.

In that regard we send our sincere thanks to the WSDA team for their brilliant Organisation; Security; Vocal entertainers; Bingo; Quiz nights and Karaoke. It all created a very relaxed venue with great social-interaction and meeting up with old and new Friends.

North Hall, Loxwood

North Hall, Loxwood — A weekend in the sunshine of quiet relaxation. Where countryside calm meets classic character tucked just a mile north of the Wey & Arun Canal, the North Hall site offered a slice of rural Sussex at its best. The gentle walk down to the canal — ending at the welcoming Onslow Arms — became a favourite for many, pairing a peaceful ramble with a waterside lunch.
An opening night when an unexpected evening delivered a scene straight out of a motoring magazine. As campers settled in, a local pizza van rolled up, filling the air with the smell of wood‑fired dough and fresh toppings. Then came the surprise:
A convoy of 15 Alfa Romeo Giulia Supers swept into the car park, ending their rally right at North Hall. Gleaming in the sunset light, these iconic Italian saloons — once used by Italian police and remembered fondly for their appearance in The Italian Job — lined up for a photo shoot that had everyone reaching for their cameras. It was the kind of moment that gives a Meet its personality: spontaneous, stylish, and shared. Sunshine, Stillness, and Shared Space.
The rest of the weekend unfolded in beautiful sunshine, the sort that slows the pace and lifts the mood. Evenings gathered naturally under Paul’s gazebo, where conversation drifted easily and everyone seemed to settle into the same relaxed rhythm. A Virgin hot air balloon floated overhead, a gentle spectacle against the blue sky.And for those feeling playful, the on‑site zip wire offered a burst of laughter and light‑hearted daring.
North Hall felt less like a campsite and more like a small community for a few days — one built on sunshine, good company, and the pleasure of simply being outdoors. A quiet success with no rush, no fuss, and no drama, the Meet was exactly what many needed: calm, friendly, and quietly memorable. A warm thank‑you goes to Pat, whose steady stewarding helped everything run smoothly from start to finish.
Sussex Farm
What a lovely weekend we’ve all had at Sussex Farm. Just 13 units joined us, but out of that 13 we were really happy to welcome 4 new to West Sussex DA members. It was a hot one with at times a lovely breeze coming across the fields. Sussex Farm continues to be one of our favourite sites and we hope to return next year. Many thanks to Paul & Gwen for letting us use their gazebo in the evenings and our fellow campers Tim & Caroline, Linda & John, Ian & Ann, Theresa & Tony, Val, Bridget & Darren, Ken & Pat, Debbie, Max & Lyn and Shawn & Karl.
East Ashling Nurseries
- the Not All Heroes Wear Capes but Sometimes Dressing Gowns Meet!
Despite the weather forecast of torrential rain and gales the hardy amongst us risked all and ventured out to East Ashling Nurseries. The field was quite dry - and remained so despite a lot of rain. The weather was warm(ish), windy and showers apart from Saturday when we (the ladies) put the World to rights whilst the men went to the pub! Between showers and tucked nicely into Tina & Steve’s awning we spent a lot of time chatting and laughing and getting to know some lovely new campers George & Nikki - despite the weather and lack of campers they said they’d had a great time and will definitely come to future Meets with West Sussex DA. Big thank you to Tina & Steve for stewarding.
So now it’s time to explain the strap line of this report…..
Friday evening, we’d had yet another lovely get-together courtesy of Tina & Steve. With the weather turning, several of us had added an extra layer of dressing gowns, wooly hats, blankets etc. He who shall remain nameless, but let’s call him D went back to the motorhome to find it locked…. “J have you got your keys, the van’s locked?”…. “noooo” says J apprehensively. In the true comradeship that West Sussex DA is proud of, we all legged it over to said locked van…. “hmm”… “oh dear”… were amongst some of the expletives to be uttered.
Now there were several suggestions about how D&J were going to get into the van - J admitted later she was thinking about whose floor she was going to sleep on - WHEN! all of a sudden someone noticed the bathroom window was open. Although this sounded a blessing in disguise, the window measuring just 400mm square and with the blinds closed, presented as yet another barrier to D&J’s night of repose….
Quick as a flash Pat had the blinds open (with no damage done), whilst in the background conversations could be heard about “who is the smallest?” - puh! before we knew it Ken Pumphrey complete in dressing gown and wooly hat was in that window head first. It was just the funniest thing in the history of WSDA camping and I’m sure will be talked about for years to come! Needless to say D&J will remain eternally grateful to Ken, Pat & Steve for acting so swiftly.

Duncton Village Hall
Well it was hotter than a Texas summer but it didn’t stop us from having a yeehaw and a hoedown in downtown Duncton. Always a popular Meet meant that this year we welcomed 25 units – several of which were new members to West Sussex DA.
Our weekend kicked off with a social evening in the Hall where we sat and chatted, making new friends, catching up with older ones. The temperature was ramping up and we had the doors open, such a lovely treat as we’d had hailstones just the weekend before.
Saturday arrived and the catering team went into action to feed the posse of campers. Led by Chris, Tina, Cath & June cooked vittles consisting of sausages, potatoes and beans followed by apple strudel and custard. Once the pots were empty we hit the dance floor for an evening of line dancing with Yanina. During the evening Yanina was heard to say “I thought you’d all be serious” – bless, she just doesn’t know us campers when we’ve had a few John Barleycorns! It really was a fabulous evening with many of our wonderful campers dressing the part – despite the 30 degrees heat!
Sunday was a rest day for many, it was so hot that even walking across the field was hard work. ANYWAY! We wouldn’t be British if we were happy with the weather!

Clapham Village Hall
With the web’person’ being AWOL this weekend, I’m having to depend on lots of lovely comments and photos from our fellow campers. I’ll be adding more as you send in your comments via Facebook or secretary@westsussexda.co.uk. (Hopefully) we’ll see you next Meet.
We welcomed campers from West Sussex, East Sussex, East Essex, Surrey, Waterside, Solent and East Kent all coming together for a fantastic weekend.
Friday evening things kicked off with Chris & Pat hosting a lively card bingo fun night, setting the tone with plenty of laughs.
On Saturday morning, around 20 walkers set off with Ken on a quest to find the bluebell woods - well worth the effort. By the evening, the atmosphere in the hall was electric as Roz delivered fantastic live music, with everyone singing and dancing. Easily one of our best nights ever - roll on the next one at Lancing! Kirsten was also celebrating the eve of her birthday, adding to the festivities.
Sunday morning saw some keen walkers head out again, this time tackling the hills in the opposite direction. At lunch time, everyone came together for a brilliant international communcal meal, with dishes from Britain, France and Italy.
Sunday evening brought more fun with a raffle and a lively quiz, won by Vicki, Alan & Temperance.
The weekend wrapped up on Monday with a coffee morning, rounding off a truly memorable few days - helped along by great weather throughout - Pat

Thank you to Pat and Chris and the team who worked so hard to make it such a lovely weekend. Even the weather was kind. I am going to miss spending time with you all but I will be popping in every now and then so you won't be rid of me altogher. Thank you Pat for the repairs and also for Steve Harris for his help with setting up. The trailer tent is new to Katy and Ross and every little helps so I know she will be in good hands with you all around. I won't apologise for the copious amounts of alcohol the get consumed, just as well it isn't every day. My recycling bin is due to be emptied tomorrow thank goodnes.
Wild Heart Hill
And the season of 2026 has kicked off with a wonderful hot and sunny weekend at Wild Heart Hill; to be honest, there was still a little nip in the air but it didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves. With many campers taking advantage of the beautiful walks in this area our very own Mr. Ken Pumphrey took a bunch of campers for a hike, although there was some denial it is believed a beverage was enjoyed (and well deserved) part way round.
It was fantastic to meet lots of new (to us) campers and to hear the lovely things you had to say. 24 camping units in total - overall a really great turnout for our first Meet of the season.

First time we’ve been here, and what a lovely location it is.
Local village has a friendly butchers shop along with a community run village Post Office and stores, and we treated ourselves to a full English cooked breakfast at a “locals” cafe just three miles down the road.
We parked up at West Worthing promenade (free parking!) then cycled on a very cycle friendly route along the promenade to Shoreham-On-Sea and back.
I’m more of a football man then cricket, but having said that it was nice to sit outside our van with cake and tea and watch an English traditional game.

This edition of What You Missed will be slightly different because there really is so much. I’ll slowly be updating in a week-by-week update with as many photos as I possible can - there’s quite a few to get through. I thought I’d post some photos of ‘behind the scenes’ as I’m sure you’ll understand that Lancing THS doesn’t happen overnight, but is months and months in the planning and is a great deal of work for our wonderful stewards, committee and team of helpers. With a turnout of 57 caravans/motorhomes etc. all arriving on Day 1 of our Lancing THS the Stewards were kept very busy. The beautiful field(s) here at Lancing had been marked out to make sure the regulations were adhered to. Blue and red alternating pitches. Pat, Chris, Steve, Lin, Sheila, Val, Roy, Charlie, Derek, Tim, Vicki, Alan and of course T had done a sterling job putting up 3 marquees and 2 party tents enabling us to have more space for our entertainments and a dance floor. The committee couldn’t ask for a better result and a great start to our THS.
In the evening we had entertainment laid on by Buckler’s Reel – the second time we’ve been entertained by this fantastic group of musicians, playing and singing traditional Irish Ceili music along with music from the 70s and 80s. Many enjoyed just sitting, clapping and listening, whilst others were on their feet – not sure who the back row were 😊 but well done for swinging those lamps!
Overall, the first day was a huge success and the Committee went to bed with smiles on their faces and shouts of “what a great evening!” What more could you ask for….. well maybe another 25 days 😊
Our entertainment kicked off with the always popular Delstarr karaoke in the marquee. There was the expected first night nerves but the marquee was soon rocking to some of our favourite tunes such as Ring of Fire by our Chairman and ended up with Sweet Caroline and of course, Delilah, sang by our Vice Chairman Roy. Roy likes to impersonate the one and only Tom Jones, however, the only resemblance he has are the ladies knickers being thrown at him. You had to be there….
Some of us committee members are quite ‘crafty’ and we thought it would be nice to give our campers the chance to show their skills in a Craft Workshop here on site. Led by Lyndsay, Sheila and June, our campers young and old had a chance to paint/draw some still life flowers, make some friendship bracelets and create some beautiful cards in a card making/die cutting class. The morning was very successful and very well attended and campers left with some really lovely ‘makes’.
Saturday night more entertainment, this time from Karl & Danny, two great guitarists who played lots of songs from the past and present. There was even a few campers who joined them for a sing song.
All of this entertainment takes a lot of thought, preparation and planning by Pat and the Committee. So come Sunday morning, the Committee had an impromptu meeting to discuss the following weekend! As Phil Jackson (American former basketball player and coach) once said “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team”. Hours of planning and preparation has been put into our 40th Birthday Weekend and we’re very excited – let’s hope our campers enjoy it…..
Things don’t go quiet during the week. We have daily visits from Mack’s Ice Cream, as if his chimes aren’t loud enough these are often shared with shouts of “is he coming over here?” and “I hope I haven’t missed him!”. Thursday night is Spud Shack 2 night. The queue was so long that we ended up giving out tickets so that we were able to let them know how many potatoes to bring.
Wednesday night is Bingo night with Chris, always a very popular event. Followed one week by a quiz night led by some of our campers. Well done to all our winners.
The Committee Collywobbles had well and truly set in by Friday morning, but as we had all been given our responsibilities we were able to get started on the Big Weekend Bash preparations. The Club Silver Band had been arriving over the past couple of days and we could hear them rehearsing all over the campsite. Some of the committee walked the campsite in the afternoon making sure everyone had raffle tickets for the Pimms Party on Saturday afternoon – big thanks to Cath for helping out on a hot afternoon.
Friday evening arrived and many of our campers dressed the part for an absolutely fantastic evening with Chiquittita – a fabulous Abba tribute band. The marquees were soon rocking with sounds of Waterloo, Dancing Queen and Money, Money, Money. The dance floor was packed and campers were sitting inside and outside in the warm evening air. What another wonderful evening at Lancing THS.
Now, the planning and co-ordinating of all these events takes time but it also wouldn’t happen without the enthusiasm of our committee. Bright and early on Saturday morning the marquees were transformed from Disco Queen to Last Night of the Proms! Pat, Chris, Lyndsay, June, Keith, Maz, Del, Vicki and of course, T, were up bright and early to turn the place red, white & blue! Once again, big thanks to Steve, Maz, Del & T for stepping in and helping the committee. So here’s some more photos of behind the scenes…..
No sooner had we finished than the Silver Band moved in and the Pimms Party began. We catered for 250 people – Celia and Ian arrived with 120 cupcakes (incl. gluten free), Sheila, Val, Vicki and T spent hours cutting up the fruit for the Pimms – big thanks to Alan for going out on Saturday and buying the fruit. Lin collected tickets and guided people to the queue, Lyndsay for manning the souvenirs table and of course, the fabulous Club Silver Band for playing some beautiful traditional and popular music.
Finally it has arrived…………….
And so this brings us to Saturday night, the evening months and months of planning was finally coming to fruition. The marquees emblazoned in red, white & blue, smiling happy campers – mostly wearing their red, white and blue costumes and the Club Silver Band all made up what can only be described as ‘simply fantastic’. Oh What a Night! West Sussex you know how to party!
To complete what had been a very successful weekend our Vice Chairman Roy, Nigel, Richard and Justin fired up the Cadac’s and campers joined us for bacon baps and tea/coffee and some final wonderful tunes from the Club Silver Band. Once again, big thanks to T for helping the committee members serve the bacon baps and to Tina for keeping the urn filled.
And finally…………
All week campers have been arriving and here we are on our last weekend nearly full to capacity again – a really wonderful testament to us, your committee. An incredible amount of planning and work goes into our THS and to see happy smiley campers and to hear all the ‘thank yous’ is much appreciated and forever remembered.
And so here we are, our last weekend. On the Friday evening some wonderful campers decided to give the committee a break and organised a fun packed evening of quizzes and even a silly game or two. Big thank you to Georgina & Richard, Vicky & Jez and Julie & Ian.
Our final Saturday, the marquees were packed and we campers spilled out onto the grass for the final evening of entertainment by Alto Duo - a really top class father & son duo, who kept us singing, dancing and laughing all evening. The marquees were packed and we even spilled out onto the grass outside for our final evening at Lancing 2025.
